2 Sara Sun rises twice in one day, May 12, 2006 ? A year after winning the CIF Southern Section Division I 500-yard freestyle title, the Crescenta Valley phenom took home two CIF Division titles.
Sun clocked 1 minute 50.11 seconds to win the 200 freestyle at the Long Beach Belmont Plaza pool. She also won her second consecutive division championship in the 500 freestyle, posting a mark of 4:51.97.
"You have to believe your body is ready and it's all mental will," Sun said.
3 Nathan Sellers runs to second in state, Nov. 26, 2006 ? Sellers capped off a stunning cross-country season by out-running some of the best athletes in the state in the Division I race at the State Cross-Country Championships.
Sellers clocked 15 minutes 18 seconds to take second in the division. His time was also the fourth-best mark on the day across all divisions.
"[After the race,] I go, 'How did you do that?' It was pretty much how I felt," Crescenta Valley Coach Mark Evans said of Sellers.
4 Freshman John Geyer steals the show, May 9, 2006 ? Geyer left a lasting first impression in CIF, as he won the CIF Southern Section Division II diving championship with a 449-performance at Westlake High.
He out-dueled defending-champion and teammate Edgar Simonyan, who took second, for the championship.
5 Christian Lawrence wins pair of CIF titles, May 13, 2006 ? His day started when he joined Ian Mirisola, Jerold Lee and Devon Borisoff in winning a CIF Southern Section Division II swimming title in the 200-yard medley relay.
Lawrence added an individual championship later in the evening. He had a personal-best time of 58.20, as he won the 100 breaststroke.
6 Andrew Steben flies to CIF crown, May 20, 2006 ? Andrew Steben expected nothing less than a CIF Southern Section Division III title in the pole vault.
