Walter R. Brant, Iain McGlashan, Charlene Gailen

Walter R. Brant

Walter R. Brant, born Oct. 29, 1918 in Hemet, died quietly on June 9, 2006.

His family moved to Chino in 1923 and to Glendale in 1927. Walter graduated from Hoover High School in the summer of 1936, then attended Glendale Junior College and Frank Wiggins Trade School.

He was a lifeguard at Pops Willow Lake (since replaced by Hansen Dam), the Glen Arden Club in Glendale and at Indian Springs in Montrose.

He was a highly technical aircraft engineer and manager at Adel Precision, Douglas Aircraft, Vard and Lockheed Aircraft.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. He lived in La Cañada for 55 years and is survived by his wife Betty, son Terry, brother Richard G. Brant and sister-in-law Elaine, nephew Richard D. Brant and several nieces and nephews.

Under the direction of Neptune Society, Walter was cremated and buried at sea. He did not wish for any services. He will be greatly missed by all.

Iain McGlashan

Iain Laurie McGlashan born Nov. 27, 1938 passed away July 1 at Verdugo Hills Hospital.

He leaves behind his wife, Jane Rosell and his beloved family, Alastair, Mairi, Shona and Stuart McGlashan; Jeffrey and Suzie Rosell; David and Kim Rosell; Morgan, Ashlee and Taylar Wilhelmsen; and Denise and Blake Omartian.

He touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be missed.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 7 at 3 p.m. at La Crescenta Presbyterian Church, 2902 Montrose Ave., La Crescenta.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society in his name.

Charlene Gailen

Charlene Cowan Gailen was born May 28, 1950 in Glendale. She died July 4, 2006 in West Hills.

Char, as she was known, attended Dunsmore Elementary, Clark Junior High and Crescenta Valley High School. Char was very active in the West Hills baseball program. She was currently a teachers' aide at Viewpoint School in Woodland Hills.

She is survived by her daughter, Jenni Gripp of Oakland and son, Blake Gailen of West Hills; her mother, Alita Cowan of La Crescenta; brothers Barry Cowan of Half Moon Bay, Dennis Cowan of Reno, Nev., sister Christine Moore of Hermosa Beach, twin sister Colleen of Orlando, Fla.; five nieces and nephews; and four grand-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to an organization that Char loved, West Hills Baseball, at P.O. Box 4702; West Hills, 91308.

Memorial services are pending.
