A few things about the forum page

All I felt when I saw Zinedine Zidane's head-butt on television was pity. That poor fellow is going to have to live with that the rest of his life. I'm glad so many responded to Judy Thomsen's letter ("Player's head-butt was despicable act," July 13).

Soccer is a great sport and she was probably just having a bad day when she wrote that letter. And now, she's having an even worse day. She'd better watch herself as she could lose her position with letters like that. Kind of like a head-butt, wouldn't you say?

As for Sharon Weisman's Community Commentary on "Assuming does not advance cause of community," Monday. I must admit (proudly) that I know Weisman. She is a Green, as well as one of those brave souls who stand out on Broadway and Brand Boulevard on Friday evenings from 5 until 7 p.m. with the Glendale Peace Vigil. But even before I knew her, she was writing a column in the religious section of this paper. I really miss that. She makes such good sense. I loved her Community Commentary. She is so prolific. She ought to change her name to Wisewoman.

Glendale has great play offering now

Do you have wacky relatives, weird neighbors? Does it seem like their entire family, from grandparents to married children, live in the house? How can there be room for everyone? Does it seem like they talk nonstop until late into the night?

Sounds like a typical multi-generational household in Glendale, doesn't it? Well in this case, it is actually the premise for the play, "You Can't Take It With You," by playwrights George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, written in 1936.

"You Can't Take It With You" relates the humorous encounters of the crazy household of Grandpa Martin Vanderhof, a family of idiosyncratic individualists. The play is filled with chaotic activity from beginning to end. There is an ample helping of one-liners and physical comedy to keep you fully entertained.

The play is currently being presented in Glendale's Brand Park by Theater Nova. Producer/Director Kathy Pearson has put together another tremendous summer treat. It is such a comfortable setting that you feel that you are right there in the house with the family.

What better way to spend a hot summer night than in the park watching a comedy? It is only running for the next two weekends so hurry on up to the park. You can enjoy the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. on July 21, 23, 28, and 29. You won't be disappointed and I guarantee that your own neighbors will no longer seem that unusual.
