Residents invited to safety seminar

The Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Department is offering encouraging residents to attend a free training seminar on handling that will teach them how to handle emergency situations with the Community Emergency Response Team.

Classes will be held at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Department: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 23; 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 26 to 28; and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 30.

Free blood pressure tests offered

 Verdugo Hills Hospital volunteer Roy Dill offers free blood pressure readings on the fourth Tuesday of every month, alternating between the Crescenta Cañada YMCA and the Verdugo Hills Family YMCA branches. The next session will be held at the Crescenta Cañada YMCA from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22.

This service is open to the community, not just YMCA members, and no appointments are necessary.

Pinhole camera session upcoming

Forest Lawn Glendale will host a two-part workshop entitled “Designing Your Own Pinhole Camera,” the first part from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 and the second at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 12.

 At the first session, artist and photographer Brian Moss will teach attendees how to make their own pinhole cameras, which do not use lenses. At the second session, attendees will come back to have the photos they have taken with their cameras developed and critiqued by Moss. The workshop is appropriate for people ages 9 and older. Forest Lawn Glendale is located at 1712 S. Glendale Blvd. in Glendale.
