BURBANK — A chain of charter schools with three campuses in Burbank and one in La Crescenta reported inaccurate data over a three-year period, overcharging the state $57 million, according to a state audit released this week.

The audit, for the period of 2002-05, reported that Options for Youth and Opportunities for Learning charter schools had questionable accruals and expenses, and found financial discrepancies.

"This was an audit especially done because of the concerns about the inaccurate or incomplete information provided by these schools," said Hilary McLean, spokesperson for the California Department of Education. "We believe that they have claimed more than they were entitled to."
