'Boddy's Big Backyard' picnic for families will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge. Verdugo Swing Society will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. Visitors may buy picnic food when they arrive. A history walk and talk will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. to learn about the early days — a time before Descanso became a public botanic garden and was Manchester Boddy's private estate, flower plantation and working ranch.
