Sophomores Paul Weitekamp, Navjit Dullett and Conner Verreaux have shown potential, but their youth is still a question mark.

"It's great for the future, but they are very young," Herskind said.

St. Francis and Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy don't have the same state aspirations, but both seek CIF redemption.

"We have modest goals," said St. Francis Coach Dennis McNulty, whose squad took third in the Mission League and failed to advance past the CIF prelims. "Our goal is to make CIF finals."

With the loss of J.P. Thies, McNulty doesn't have a true frontrunner, but believes seniors Miles Brewington, Devin Conn and David Hidalgo will provide stability.

Tologs Coach Kirk Nishiyama's squad has failed to make the CIF prelims in each of the last two seasons and he's ready for that to change.

"We had no depth," he said. "This year we have more depth."

That depth comes in the form of sophomores Erin Hartwig, Alissa Chan, Holly Hung and junior Amanda Rincon.
