Sara Khosravi, PTA president, thanks Dawn Velasquez for serving as chairwoman of the "Welcome Back Coffee" on the first day of school. Also, thanks to Principal Linda Russo-Milano for being the guest speaker for this event.

Russo-Milano's presentation was very informative. The gift-wrap fundraiser will run from Sept. 29. This will be the only fundraiser for the year. Profits from this event support the programs the PTA sponsors during the school year. Many thanks go to Liza Hemingway and Vilma Bedrossian for all their hard work in coordinating this event.

The first PTA meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the school auditorium. The featured speaker will be Principal Linda Russo-Milano, who will discuss the progress of the school year so far, and will answer questions from parents. Everyone is invited to get involved and join PTA. For more information, call the school office at (818) 241-1801.

FRANKLIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Ibet Acevedo, Franklin PTA president, said the students have gotten off to a great start returning to school. PTA volunteers made welcome-back posters, set up a welcome-back PTA table and greeted all parents and students as they walked through the gate. Doughnuts and juice were served to the parents, PTA literature was offered and questions were answered.

Rachel Torres, executive vice-president, made lovely, paper-sack goodie bags for the teachers. The bags were filled with much needed emergency supplies. Aimee Hopkins, membership vice president, has the membership drive in full swing with many perks for parents to join.

There are prizes for students and teachers with the top class membership.

The first fundraiser was recently held at the Chuck E. Cheese restaurant in Burbank on Sept. 7. It was great to see the children playing, having fun and eating pizza for a good cause. For comments or suggestions, please e-mail Ibet Acevedo at Ibet4avonyahoo.com. For more information, call (818) 243-1809.
