Ranger program to focus on natural world

The city's Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department will host a junior park ranger program on Sundays beginning Sunday for children ages 8 to 12.

The program, which will focus on the world of nature, will meet every week from 2 to 3 p.m. at Deukmejian Wilderness Park Ranger Station, at 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta.

Children will participate in nature courses and outdoor activities relating to subjects such as mammals, reptiles, birds, insects, plants, ecology and geography.

First Bowl-a-Thon to take place Oct. 15

The inaugural Jewel City Optimist Club of Glendale Bowl-a-Thon will take place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at Montrose Bowl, 2334 Honolulu Ave., Montrose.

The event is geared to support the community's youth.
