Ten Years Ago …

Eloise and Bill Nicholl of La Crescenta returned from a whirlwind visit to Washington, D.C. where they had been invited by First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton to a tea along with 258 other area coordinators of the national Hillary Clinton Fan Club. Although neither Nicholl was a registered Democrat, they served as coordinators of the San Gabriel Valley Fan Club of the First Lady, which placed them on the event's guest list.

Twenty Years Ago …

Hailed as one of the best Oktoberfest celebrations ever, a large crowd consumed 1,700 dinners, 3,000 hot dogs, 1,500 bratwursts and 70 kegs of beer at the 1986 Montrose event.

Thirty Years Ago …

In the second of two dual competitive gymnastic meets, the Crescenta-Cañada YMCA gymnasts outscored the Glendale YMCA team and claimed victory.

Forty Years Ago …

A ride on the "Cartoon Express," prizes, favors and a chance to meet "Engineer Bill" Stulla in person were in store for area youngsters at a Ralphs market in the 2100 block of Foothill Blvd. The popular television personality was on hand for a two-hour period to greet his young fans. Whenever the big alarm clock he wore around his neck rang, a prize was handed out to one of the attendees.

Fifty Years Ago …

Sermons on how to banish feelings of limitation were offered at the Crescenta Valley Church of Religious Science during the fall of 1956.
