At almost the same day and hour every year, there is a group of 30 young women whose adrenaline collectively rises and stays that way for a few minutes.
And, at almost the same time every year, there is a group of seven girls out of that group of 30 whose adrenaline collectively rises and stays that way for months afterward.
Monday morning, each of the 30 finalists stood on footsteps at the south end of Tournament House leading to a grassy area, facing the various television and newspaper cameras. While each girl nervously smiled and tried to be as composed as possible, Tournament of Roses President Paul L. Holman announced this year's court of seven: Christina Barsamian, Mary McCluggage, Sue Park, Blair Ramirez, Aneesah Giroux, Kaitlin Terpstra-Sweeny and Danielle Vine.
