All Health's Breaking Loose:No Time Like The Present

November 03, 2006

My dad has great pockets. He can tune your car or butcher a side of beef with the tools he carries on him. At any given moment he can come up with the exact piece of hardware necessary. It's like watching Mary Poppins pull that lamp out of her carpet bag. Always makes me feel safe. A couple of years ago, (or so) when I was in my teens, he was having a bad time resolving a situation. We sat down to talk and he said, "It's like this." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a heavy duty metal tape measure. He kept pulling out the tape until he put his thumb on 52. He said, "This is where I'm at right now, and by the law of averages, maybe I'll make it to about here." He yanked out more of the tape until it was across the room and showed me the 70s and 80s. "If I don't make this situation better, (he pointed to the short distance from 52 to 72) it will be a thorn in my side for the rest of my time on this earth." Thus, he masterfully illustrated THERE'S NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT. And there's not. Whether you have just become an empty nester, embarked upon a new career, started your first child at LCE, or are recovering from an illness, NOW is the time to focus on your body.

Sure it's a great idea, but, what if I "just don't feel like it right now?" The motivation to feel and look great comes from appreciation.

Having within you a joyous light feeling-that life is a gift, will bring the desire to bend, move, feel, and experience new things with your body. Your body is the one machine that improves with use. So, as this feeling drives you to move, your body just gets better and better. Every day is a gift and brings with it an opportunity to retrain your focus. Practice daily bringing your awareness to whatever it is that makes you feel lucky, gifted, or blessed. You'll find yourself burning calories with a smile on your face.

Feeling appreciation and peace defeats the aging process whereas stress and anxiety speed it up. Anxiety and depression add years to your face and body. These two emotions, gratitude and anxiety, are polar opposites. They are as far away from each other as they could be. It is impossible to feel them both at the same time even though they may both exist inside you simultaneously.

Which one will you feel? The one you embrace. And, the time to choose which one you will embrace is now. It is possible to look and feel better than you ever have. It all starts with feeling appreciation for what you've got. Got a tape measure handy?

See you in two weeks.

Love and Health, Loa
