An informational public workshop will be held at the Crescenta Valley Water District's administration office at 2700 Foothill Blvd. on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. to discuss a possible rate increase of up to 4% effective on bills mailed after Jan. 1, 2007. The increase is for the purpose of meeting CVWD's expenses in providing water service. The workshop is an opportunity for residents to become acquainted with the proposal prior to the Dec. 12 public hearing.
On the agenda for Nov. 14 is a presentation on the water master plan followed by a discussion on the discovery of methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) in CVWD's wells, specifically the impact of MTBE detected in the Verdugo Basin. Information will be presented on the procedures in place to ensure safe drinking water and a treatment and removal plan. MTBE is a gasoline additive used to reduce emissions from vehicles and can be transmitted to wells and reservoirs through leaking underground storage tanks, spills, and runoff.
