January 05, 2007|By Charles Cooper

A full service sushi restaurant has applied for a conditional use permit for alcohol sales at 2232 Honolulu Ave.

The CUP will allow sales, service and consumption of alcohol on the property, situated in a commercial retail zone. Owner of the property is Philip J. Thomas.

The restaurant, Sushi Plus, will be operated by Ki Seum Eum. He was represented at the city hearing by Nathan Freeman.

Freeman said the applicant wants to serve Japanese beer and Sake, incidental to food sales. There will be no bar on site. Freeman said the applicant accepts all city conditions, but would like to continue alcohol sales until 11 p.m.

Hearing officer Laura Stotler said the police department policy is to stop alcohol sales an hour before closing, so the department is recommending a 10 p.m. stop on alcohol service.

Freeman said the restaurant will share parking lots for Montrose parking, and will also use meter parking in front. The address is not near a school or church.

Stotler will give her decision to the applicant in a few days.
