Opera Talks Return to the La Cañada Flintridge Library

January 12, 2007

The La Cañada Flintridge Library begins this year's season of opera talks with a presentation by Diane Beltoya from the La Opera Speakers Bureau on the "Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny" on Monday, Jan. 22, at 6:30 p.m. Mahagonny, an Old West boomtown, rises from the desert to become a razzle-dazzle mecca for lust, liberty and the pursuit of pleasure. Kurt Weill penned a haunting score, which crosses over from opera to cabaret to Broadway.

The opera talks are sponsored by the Los Angeles Opera and the County of Los Angeles Public Library. The series will continue with Tannhauser on Feb. 12, Behind the Scenes on March 12, Porgy and Bess on April 16, and Luisa Fernanda on May 14, on Mondays at 6:30 p.m.

The La Cañada Flintridge Library (County of Los Angeles Public Library) is located at 4545 Oakwood Ave., La Cañada Flintridge. For more information call 790-3330.
