Crash snarls traffic near Colorado Street

A two-car crash on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway just south of the Colorado Street exit snarled traffic for about an hour Wednesday afternoon.

The driver of an SUV was transported to the Los Angeles County USC Medical Center after the SUV flipped onto its side when it collided with a Chevrolet Avalanche, trapping the driver inside the vehicle, California Highway Patrol Officer Vince Ramirez said.

The identity or condition of the hospitalized driver was not immediately known as of Wednesday night.

The driver of the Avalanche was treated on scene, Ramirez said.

Emergency workers for the Los Angeles and Glendale fire departments responded to the accident at 3 p.m., he said.

CHP officers closed the left three lanes until about 3:58 p.m., he said.

Police looking for robbery suspect

Glendale Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who robbed a bank inside a Vons store.

The robbery occurred at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the U.S. Bank Branch inside the Vons store at 561 North Glendale Blvd., Glendale Police Officer John Balian said.

The man reportedly handed a bank teller a written note with a message that said "this is a robbery and I have a gun," Balian said.

The man, who never brandished a weapon, then said the teller had five seconds to hand him "fives, twenties and ones," Balian said.

The teller handed the man $700 and he left the store through its east doors, Balian said.

The bank's alarm was activated during the robbery, Balian said, but the man left before police arrived.

Witnesses described the man as Caucasian, 5-foot-8, 140 to 160 pounds and clean-shaven with short or no hair. He was wearing dark sunglasses, a black baseball hat and a blue-gray shirt, police said.

Fliers with the man's description are being circulated throughout the community.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the police department at (818) 548-4840, or Crime Stoppers at (818) 507-STOP.

Callers may remain anonymous.

Missing boy found safe hours later

A 13-year-old mentally disabled Glendale boy who went missing Tuesday evening from his school was found a short time later a few blocks away, police said.

Abraham Garcia reportedly ran away from Tobinworld — a school on E. Broadway for students with behavioral problems — at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, but was found unharmed at 7 p.m. on Colorado Street, Glendale Police Officer John Balian said.

"He just leaves," Balian said. "I don't think he comprehends that if he leaves he can get lost."

Abraham has a history of getting lost away from the school, Balian said.
