Rockhaven For Sale

February 02, 2007

The Honolulu Avenue property which once housed the Rockhaven Sanitarium is on the market and has drawn some interest, according to the realtor handling the sale.

Jack Nazarian of P&K Realty said he is handling the sale for the Ararat Company, which last operated the local facility. Several buyers have expressed interest, he said.

Preservationists had battled to save the hospital, which once housed Flo Ziegfeld, Billie Burke and Marilyn Monroe's mother, Gladys Baker. The complex was also noted for its cluster of rock cottages.

Nazarian said any developer wanting to build condominiums on the property would be required to go through all required steps, including getting a subdivision map approved.

The sign on site advertising the property lists 11 parcels, which Nazarian said is the way the property is recorded.

Nazarian said the property has only been on the market since December.
