Glendale City Council Meeting Preview

February 12, 2007

ON THE AGENDA

The following items will be considered at Tuesday's Glendale City Council meeting:

ORDINANCE AMENDMENT

After comparing the salaries of certain Glendale city job positions with those of other cities, staff is recommending adjustments to some of these salaries.

The changes would affect Glendale Management Assn.-represented and exempt employees, covering management and mid-management positions.

The adjustments would raise the pay for those positions found to be below the average in the labor market.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council will likely discuss the issue and vote on whether to amend the city salary ordinance to reflect the adjustments at a total annual cost of about $112,000.

STREET AND

SIDEWALK WORK

The council will vote on whether to award a construction contract to Palp Inc. dba Excel Paving Co. in the amount of $258,810 to complete the Allen Avenue street-and-storm-drain improvements and sidewalk construction at various locations.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Council will likely approve awarding the contract, allowing work to begin on the project, which would involve street improvement on the north side of the railroad tracks on Allen and construction of cul-de-sacs on both sides of the tracks.

The project also includes construction of sidewalks on Paloma Avenue, Downing Avenue and Garfield Avenue, and the reconstruction of a wheelchair access ramp at 2700 Montrose Ave.

CLEAN, BEAUTIFUL

BYLAWS

The council will consider approving bylaws for Glendale Clean & Beautiful Inc. the fundraising arm of the Committee for a Clean & Beautiful Glendale.

The council created the committee in 1999 to advise the city on community beautification efforts. And in November, the council adopted a resolution creating Glendale Clean & Beautiful Inc. as the nonprofit corporate fundraising arm of the committee.

Approving the bylaws would allow the fundraising arm to be formally incorporated under Internal Revenue Code.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Council will likely approve the bylaws.
