Ten computers stolen from Central Library

Police are investigating the loss of $14,000 worth of computers that went missing from the Glendale Central Library on Monday.

Ten computers were discovered missing from a large storage room in the basement of the library after technicians began combing through the inventory for installation orders, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

The computers were brand new and contained no personal information, he said.

Library staff and other employees will likely be interviewed by detectives as they try to track down the computers, he said.

The underground storage room was described in police reports as having only two access doors, both locked and monitored by an electronic security system.

The room stores more than 50 computers, according to the reports.

Detectives could potentially likely track the hardware through any future sales on the market, Lorenz said.

"Serial numbers don't disappear forever," he said.

If detectives determine the computers were stolen, Lorenz said there is a high probability the thieves will be caught.

"It's pretty low for someone to steal from the public library system," he said.
