COUNCIL, CHAMBER TEAM UP
Howard Hakes, who was elected president of the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce in January, will speak about a new partnership between the chamber and the town council.
The chamber and town council have talked about working together to bring back the Fourth of July fireworks display at Crescenta Valley High School, which was canceled last year due to construction work on the new field.
Another project being discussed is the installation of four new "Welcome to La Crescenta" signs.
Preliminary designs of the signs show stone bases with concrete tops.
The signs might be placed on the La Crescenta Avenue offramp on the Foothill (210) Freeway, on the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue, on Crescenta Valley Water District property on Pennsylvania Avenue and at a spot park at Foothill Boulevard in Pickens Canyon.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Hakes will introduce himself as the new president.
FREEWAY TUNNEL PRESENTATION
Linda Hui, transportation planning manager for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, will make a presentation on a proposed tunnel to extend the Long Beach (710) Freeway to the Foothill (210) Freeway.
The Long Beach Freeway runs north and south from Los Angeles to Long Beach. Metro has been researching the feasibility of extending the freeway from its current northern terminus at Valley Boulevard in Los Angeles to the Foothill Freeway in Pasadena.
Concepts to extend the freeway have been proposed and evaluated without success over the past 40 years.
Some residents have brought up concerns that the proposed extension will create more traffic along the Foothill Freeway in the La Crescenta area.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Many concerned residents are expected to attend.
