Answer for RockHaven Preservation

Is it possible for the residents of the Crescenta Valley to purchase the property at RockHaven through a community bond measure? It seems like the perfect location for a park/community center. If the residents of the C.V. had a true sense of ownership in the property, we may have a greater stake in the development of the property as opposed to a real estate developer's vision of more crackerbox houses or condos. The building could be rented for community events, receptions, etc. and at the same time retain its historical look and value to the community, preserving it for future generations.

Sierra Club Urges Preservation of Mountain Oaks Area

Our community residents would like to see our quality of life preserved. The development planned for the Mountain Oaks area of Glendale threatens that quality of life. The development proposal is currently incompatible with the current Glendale city zoning and land use laws.

The Sierra Club opposes any use of the undeveloped Mountain Oaks land other than for open space or recreational uses.

Our area residents do not want to see new projects that will worsen traffic congestion and add to the overcrowding in the Northern Glendale schools. Residents do not want to see our city overdeveloped. We do not want to see increased air pollution from a large development near Crescenta Valley Park.

The Verdugo Mountains are a rare natural treasure that is so close to so many residents. The forty acres that the Mountain Oaks area encompasses is a natural extension of the Crescenta Valley County Park. Mountain Oaks is a beautiful area that should be preserved for all future generations to enjoy.

Our community came together a few years ago to preserve the proposed Oakmont View V land that is now a wilderness recreation area. Subsequently, our city council has worked to preserve large tracts of natural open space in Glendale.

The loss of Mountain Oaks to development would be more than just a loss of wildlife habitat and our city protected oak and sycamore trees; it would be a loss of a natural legacy and a diminution of our quality of life. Support the effort to preserve our Verdugo mountains for the future rather than leaving overdevelopment and pollution as our legacy.
