Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce:Strong Turn Out for First Mixer of 2007

February 16, 2007

What a fantastic turnout for the Chamber's first mixer of the year. Bonners Party & Equipment Rentals (our host) had a tent set up for guests which kept everyone warm without the need for heaters. With this impressive set up in the tent, just as many guests were inside their display room. We actually took over the entire place, inside and out.

Refreshments were plentiful, as they prepared for twice the estimated amount, and a good thing they did.

The mixer being held on Tuesday and not the normal Wednesday provided many gifts and prizes for those late Valentine shoppers from several of our businesses. We would like to thank those who contributed: Albertsons-Tujunga, Bob Bronson Studio, Crescenta Valley Sun, Dominick's Italian Restaurant, Holly Huerkins of CV Insurance, Leo's All-Star Sports Bar & Grill, Mary Pinola, See's Candy, Howard Hakes, Lloyds Engineering, Caspian Services, Inc., Mae of PartyLite, Millie Alvarez of Dilbeck, Foothill Businesses and Cupids Flowers.

Chamber President Howard Hakes introduced three of our new members. David De Mulle, owner of the Foothills Paper in Sunland-Tujunga. This is a free weekly newspaper for the area, revenue generated by their advertisers. We encourage support of our newspapers, as we have often said, they record our history.

Somer Gonzalez, Director of Discoveryland Preschool in La Crescenta (a center managed by Glendale Adventist Hospital) invited those with children of preschool age to visit their establishment at 6235 Honolulu Ave.

Aram Vartanian, owner of Foothillbusiness.com provided information on his online business for business owners. They also produce the Foothills Magazine which comes out the old fashioned way, via snail mail. What's important, it's getting out.

Our Honorary Mayor, Leslie Lesh, presented the Character & Ethics Business Member of the Month to Liza and Tim Morelli, owners of Bonners. A long time in the community, they know the importance of giving back. Kyle Studebaker spoke up on how they have donated the heaters for the CVHS Prom Plus event. I'm sure if we asked around, we would be astonished of their giving. The loyalty of their employees speaks for itself.

We thank all who attended including our representative of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station. Mike and Pete Smith, next month's mixer hosts also attended. Mike will again be a co-host for the annual Smart-a-Thon, held at Verdugo Hills Hospital

The after-hours mixers are a great way to network. Not only business to business, but it also gives the public a way to meet the people of our community and see first hand what they offer. Everyone is invited to attend these. This mixer and the next will give you a chance to talk one-on-one with those running for office in the Glendale Schools and City Council. Give us a call at 248-4957 to find out more on our upcoming events. Our office hours may be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., but our website, www.lacrescenta.org. is always open. So is our e-mail.
