CVHS Hosts Founders Day

February 23, 2007|By Robin Goldsworthy

It was Oscar fever at the Crescenta Valley High School PTSA Founders Day celebration on Tuesday evening, Feb. 20.

Keeping with the theme of the evening, "A Night At the Awards," the Falcon Café was outfitted in silver, black and gold, complete with balloons, statuettes, and a room filled with service award nominees.

The evening began with music expertly performed by the CVHS jazz band combo. CV PTSA President Debbie Green welcomed guests and, after the presentation of colors and national anthem, invited everyone to enjoy a buffet dinner prepared by Cathy Turansky.

As dinner was being finished, the cast of the school's upcoming musical, Pippin, performed for guests. The production opens on March 2.

An abbreviated PTSA meeting was held, but the assembled were in the café for more important business — the announcements of who garnered this year's various service awards.

This year's recipients of the Honorary Service Awards were senior class president Joanna Yim, teachers David Pratt, Amber McLeod and CV PTSA Debbie Green. Local organizations CV CAN and Jet Propulsion Laboratory also received HSAs for their contributions that benefited the school's student body. Long time volunteer Marian Mirsky received the Continuing Service Award and the coveted Golden Oak Service Award was presented to

former CVHS co-principal Mike Livingston and Patty Scripter.

The evening ended on a sweet note — a sumptuous dessert buffet was enjoyed by everyone.
