Crescenta Valley Town Council Meeting Wrap-up

COLLECTION FOR TROOPS

Alternate Councilman Frank Beyt urged residents to donate a variety items to U.S. service men and women stationed in Afghanistan.

The collection is part of an authorized shipment by the U.S. government. Items in demand include: sunscreen, lip balm, wet wipes, batteries, cold medicine, duct tape, Listerine, hard candy, digital watches and compasses.

The items are in short supply and difficult to obtain in Afghanistan, Beyt said.

WHAT IT MEANS

A collection box will be on hand at the Arbor Day celebration at 10 a.m. on March 31 at Two Strike Park. For a full list of needed items, contact council member Beyt at (818) 957-0246 or beytatt.net.

LA CRESCENTA

SIGNAGE

The council accepted $1,000 in county funds from Supervisor Michael Antonovich for the construction of a new "Welcome to La Crescenta" sign.

WHAT IT MEANS

The new sign is slated to go near the exit off ramp into La Crescenta off the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway.

ARBOR DAY

The council announced that it will honor the memory of fallen soldier Nicholas Steinbacher, who died in Iraq in December, at the upcoming Arbor Day celebration in Two Strike Park.

The event starts at 10 a.m. on March 31 and is open to the public.

WHAT IT MEANS

A new tree will be planted and dedicated to Steinbacher.
