Unsuccessful candidates speak out

Most say campaigns were learning experiences for them and some say they'll try again.

"I didn't have any complaint about the election process, I just was not lucky," he said. "The support I was getting from the community was tremendous, and at the end I don't know what happened. It could be that [anticipated voters] didn't show up."

But the television host and commentator has no hard feelings.

"They all were qualified candidates, in my opinion," he said. "I guess the people wanted new faces on the council, and they got one."

Agajanian has not yet decided if he will take another run for the office.

Glendale Unified School District trustee Greg Krikorian was one of the candidates favored to win the election, but after falling short, he is still glad to have participated.

"What was exciting to me was coming up with a vision for our city with passion and love, and seeing where our city should go together," he said.

Several factors likely contributed to his loss, but he takes them in stride, Krikorian said.

"I think people wanted a change in the current council so much they associated my last name with some other members of the council," he said.

If so, it is disappointing and shows a need for unity in the city, he said.

For now, Krikorian's focus is on carrying out his duties on the school board, where he said he is about to serve a year as president.

"I don't feel like I lost. I won," he said. "I won in the experience of learning more about the city I live in, learning the issues we need to address and I'm going to bring this experience with me to serve this community the best I can."

Krikorian has not said whether he will take another crack at the council in two years, but he hasn't ruled out the possibility.

Councilman Rafi Manoukian, who initially led the race Tuesday night, could not be reached for comment.
