GLENDALE — Two local teams will be participating in the 49th annual Mt. SAC Relays today at the campus of Mt. San Antonio College.

Hoover High and Crescenta Valley will be the only area teams competing as Glendale, which was originally scheduled to compete, pulled out.

The Nitros decided to give their runners some time off to rest instead of running in the relays.

Highlighting the day's events will be the Crescenta Valley girls competing in the Distance Medley Invitational at 7:03 p.m.

Running in the event for the Falcons will be Claire Collison, Claire Harrison, Rachel Lange and Shelby Pock.

"Based on how the girls have been running, they deserve to be in [the race]," Crescenta Valley Coach Mark Evans said.

The Falcons boys' team, consisting of Eric Kleinsasser, Kurtis Matejka, Scott Morrison and Neil Jones, will be running in the Distance Medley Seeded race at 8:40 p.m.

"It's always a nice relay to run," Evans said. "This will be fun to do."

The only Falcon competing in an individual event is Ashley Baucham, as she goes off in the high jump at 10 a.m.

Hoover, whose boys' team ran in the 4x1600 relay Friday night, gets going on Saturday as Annie Sahl, Jessica Ruvalcaba, Shannon Azizi and Arleen Sinani run in the girls 4x200 at 11 a.m.

The Tornadoes are also scheduled to run in the girls' 4x400 relay at 12:49 p.m.

Running that race for Hoover will be Angineh Babakhanians, Gwendolyn King, Ruvalaba and Mellisa Sanchez.
