Wags-N-Whiskers Walk 'Waises' Awareness on Sunday, May 6

April 20, 2007

The Glendale Humane Society will hold its 3rd Annual Wags-N-Whiskers Walk on Sunday, May 6.

The walk will take place in the 2200-2400 blocks of Honolulu Avenue in the Montrose Shopping Park. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. in the Andersen's Pet Shop parking lot, with the walk beginning at 10 a.m. Walkers are encouraged to bring their dogs and enjoy the atmosphere and festivities of the Montrose Shopping Park Harvest Market which includes many vendors, food booths, entertainment and fun and games for dogs and people alike. Registration fees for the walk are $20 per adult, $10 per child (12 and under) and $5 per dog. Former GHS alumni and their adopters are encouraged to attend. All proceeds from the event will benefit the society's Second Chance Program, through which homeless dogs and cats are rescued and given a second chance at life in the no-kill shelter.

For more than 80 years the GHS has been improving the lives of homeless dogs and cats. In 2002, the society began the Second Chance program through which dogs and cats are rescued from high-kill animal control facilities and brought to GHS to find permanent, loving homes. GHS provides food, shelter, veterinary care, training and recreation to an estimated 1,200 cats and dogs each year. The primary support for the shelter comes from fundraising events and donations from generous citizens. GHS not only receives help from the community, but gives back through community services including animal intake and adoption, dog training, community outreach and humane education.
