The boy did not sustain any major injuries and required only minor treatment at a county medical facility, Balian said.
He would not elaborate on the alleged assault, citing an ongoing investigation involving a minor.
The boy reportedly called 911 immediately after the incident and gave police a description of what Garcia was wearing.
Patrol officers were able to locate Garcia about 30 minutes later sitting at the bus stop where he allegedly met the boy in the first place, Balian said.
Garcia was initially jailed on $100,000 bail, but a Glendale Superior Court judge raised that to $175,000 during an arraignment hearing Tuesday where he was charged with lewd acts with a minor and oral copulation, court clerks said.
It was unclear how the boy was lured nearly one mile south, Balian said.
Most of the time, sexual predators are well-rehearsed and prepared to say whatever children want to hear, said Kathie Mathis, director of domestic violence programs at the Glendale YWCA.
"They hone that craft," she said. "They study up on what kids want."
Most predatory sexual assaults can be avoided if parents impress upon their children to stay away from strangers no matter what, she said.
Police are hoping witnesses may have seen the pair walking in the area sometime between 9:45 and 10:15 p.m. and call with whatever they may have seen.
"They might have thought nothing about it, that they were just a father and son," Balian said.
Garcia was reportedly wearing a yellow, short-sleeved shirt; blue jeans; white shoes; and carrying a white or silver duffle bag.
Police described him as being about 6-foot and about 160 pounds.
