ASSISTEENS HONOR YOUNG WOMAN AT PRESENTATION

Assisteens, an auxiliary of the Assistance League of Glendale, had its annual member recognition and fundraiser on March 31 at the La Cañada Country Club.

Titled "Tropical Escape," the event included lunch, silent auction, fashion show and senior presentation.

The senior presented was Nicole Navarro, of La Crescenta, who attends Crescenta Valley High School. Nicole will be attending Northern Arizona University where she will be studying education.

Modeling was done by the Assisteens members, including Naz Abghari, Meghan Amado, Amy Draney, Kacie Dragojlovic, Midori Fabricante, Emily Fairchild, Paige Farestveit, Abby Gabor, Amberly Gangi, Annalisa Gangi, Erin Gustafson, Alyssa Larson, Stephanie McGowan, Shannon Moore, Katie Nagao, Nicole Navarro, Natasha Reyes, Nicole Reyes, Sofia Rezvani, Amal Shaheen, Courtney Spitznagel, Elizabeth Veselich, Lisa Vitale, Kristen Ward, Janet Ward, Kelsey Warren, Mackinsey Woolever, Meaghan York, Sydney Zarate and Mondana Zargarnian.

Assisteens, with members from seventh to 12th grades, is a philanthropic organization that helps Glendale families. Some of the projects include, "adopting" needy families for the holidays, supporting the Desi Geestman Foundation and its efforts at the City of Hope, donating toys to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve "Toys for Tots" program and assisting the city of Glendale with its Winter Wonderland activities.

Assisteens also support the Assistance League of Glendale by staffing its thrift shop, Thrift Alley, each Saturday; assisting at the Festival of Trees, the annual December fundraiser; supplying books for use in its Operation School Bell project and providing table favors for monthly senior luncheons.

OLD LAS VEGAS NIGHT BENEFITS SYMPHONY

The Glendale Symphony Orchestra Assn. is planning an "Old Las Vegas Night," with gaming, prizes and Western-style barbecue at 5 p.m. May 19 and at the home of Joan and Warren Binzley high atop Chevy Chase Canyon in Glendale.

Tickets are $60 per person, which includes $50 in gaming chips. The party will be held to benefit the Glendale Symphony Orchestra.

Sheila Murray is chairwoman of the event and will assisted by President Patrick Shahijanian, immediate past president Bill Holderness and board members Jack Kabateck, Mary Ann Plumley and Jane Garcin.

The Sardo Brothers Band will be playing Western music and ballroom standards for dancing.
