Tigers Graduate to Wolves

May 25, 2007|By Robin Goldsworthy

Seven Tiger cubs advanced to the next level of their scouting career by becoming Wolves on Friday night, May 18.

The ceremony was held at Lincoln Elementary school in La Crescenta and honored the boys from Pack 310, Den 1.

According to Bradley Davis, 7, the boys received a Tiger cub badge. "We were happy to have it," said Davis.

Each of the boys received recognition for the year's activities. Davis received two loops, one for swimming and the other for basketball. "I was excited to have them," he said.

David Fuentes, 6, was also excited to be a part of the festivities. "I received six beads," he said.

Beads are given out to kids for a variety of things including participating in family activities, community activities and den activities. Fuentes received his beads for mostly family activities. Two of the things he received the beads for were for his recycling efforts and for cleaning his room. He got loops for teams sports -- soccer and baseball.

One of the few things that will be changing with the advancement is the neckerchief (scarf) that the boys wear. As Wolves, the color is yellow whereas the Tigers are known for the signature orange.

In the Fuentes household, orange will still be found because little brother Kris, 5, will become a new Tiger cub in September. He said that looking at the things his brother, David, did as a Tiger was "cool." "I want to go camping with the Tiger cubs," he said.

The den is part of the Verdugo Hills Council of Boy Scouts. The council provides values-based programs to more than 10,000 young men and women in the Glendale, Burbank, North Hollywood, Sun Valley, Sunland, Tujunga, La Crescenta, Montrose, La CaƱada Flintridge and Eagle Rock.
