My name is Alene Aroustamian and I am a senior at Glendale High School. I was blessed with being awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the foundation. I am going to attend USC in the fall as a member of their Thornton School of Music with an intended major in vocal performance. Ultimately, my dream is to be an actress on stage and camera. The stage is my second home. I am a member of the LA Children's Chorus and have performed at the Music Center & Hollywood Bowl. I am also a member of ASB and the drama department at GHS and intend to continue these activities at USC as a member of the Trojan family.

Kristen Muche — $250

My name is Kristen Muche, and I am a senior at Crescenta Valley High School. The scholarship that I have been awarded is in the amount of $250 from the Glendale Community Foundation Endowment. This coming fall, I plan on attending Azusa Pacific University as an art major with a minor in psychology. My career goal is to become an art therapist, working with all ages of individuals whose most effective means of communication is through the emotional release, and expression, of art. After my four to five years of school ending my junior and senior year of college I plan to go to an art school afterwards. I them plan on receiving my master's degree in expressive therapies back east. In preparation for this career choice, I have taken four years of art classes and an advanced placement psychology class at Crescenta Valley High School. The collaboration of these two subjects has greatly aided my understanding of how art therapy works. In addition, I have volunteered at Kids Art, and art studio for youth in La Canada, and at Metropolitan State Hospital, a mental institution located in Norwalk, California. At Metropolitan State Hospital, I worked under the wing of my teacher, Mr. Howarth, from Art Center College of Design, where I spent every Saturday during this past summer taking his three-hour figure drawing courses. With Mr. Howarth's assistance, I was able to work with groups of patients who undergo art, music, and drama therapy to better enhance their social, and personal, behavior. I am looking forward to my upcoming years in college to enhance and refine my skills in art and psychology and , most importantly, growing stronger as an individual and aspiring art therapist.
