"Part of the purpose of this party is to attract Republicans that want to jump in before the presidential election comes along," Sardo said. "We have something for them to belong to."

District gets new general manager
The Foothills Municipal Water District board of directors named Glendale resident Nina Jazmadarian as its new general manager last week, making her the district's first female general manager in agency history.
Jazmadarian will replace three-year general manager Bill Pecsi. Pecsi left the district in May for a supervisor position at Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Foothill interim general manager Jay Malinowski said.
As general manager, Jazmadarian will lead the district and its seven-member agencies, which include the Crescenta Valley Water District.
"Her job is to make sure that every nickel the district spends is a nickel well spent and is spent in the public good," said Malinowski, who has been serving as interim general manager for the past 2 1/2 months. "She's also got to make sure there is a competent staff available and that she stays in very close touch with our neighboring water agencies."
Jazmadarian joins the district amid what is shaping up to be the driest year recorded in L.A. County history, according to Metropolitan.
