Eleven middle school and high school choirs auditioned and were invited to compete May 5 at Pasadena High School. Each sang two a cappella songs in any style of three- or four-part harmony and were judged in intonation, tone quality, synchronization, style, phrasing and dynamics.
Each school received a cash award for its school's music program. A local high school receiving a cash award was Crescenta Valley High School, Charismatics Chamber Choir, Tammi Adlerman, director, which received $1,000.
The local middle school receiving a cash award was Wilson Middle School of Glendale, Eighth Grade Choir, Charlotte Smurthwaite, director, which was presented with $750.
Next year's festival will be May 17 at Glendale High School.

STUDENT ON DEAN'S LIST FOR SPRING SEMESTER
Laura Mart of Glendale was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Washington University in St. Louis.
Mart is a graduate of Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles, and is enrolled in the university's College of Art in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts.
