The Election Committee has been gearing up for our Town Council election, which will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 3 at Crescenta Valley High School’s Career Center. Three regular seats and three alternate seats are available. Voters can cast their vote for up to three candidates. More details regarding the election will follow. We did secure $3,000 from a United States Postal Service account for an election mailer. This is the first time we will be able to mail to all of the registered voters in unincorporated La Crescenta and Montrose, informing them of our election. We hope this will increase voter turnout.

The Banner Committee, co-chaired by Councilwoman Danette Erickson and community member Ray Larson, along with Councilman Frank Beyt, has been working to get Home Town Hero Banners along Foothill Boulevard. These banners should be ready in the next few months and will honor active military personnel in our community. Sponsorships are available for $500. For more information, see our website at www.yourtowncouncil.org.

Foothill Design Committee is gearing up for presentation of the Community Standards District for Foothill Boulevard. This project has been worked on for many years. Tentatively, the public meeting was scheduled for September, but it may need to move back to October.

This Community Standards District will help make Foothill Boulevard into a more viable retail location with consideration of the current business owners.

The Art Commission, co-chaired by town Councilmen Robert Thomas and Steve Pierce, presented pictures of a possible location for an outdoor stage at Crescenta Valley Park. When it comes to fruition, it will undoubtedly be one of our great community assets.

“Welcome to La Crescenta” signs are one of my pet projects this year. Many have noticed the work already in progress for Pickens Canyon Park on the corner of Briggs Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. This is where one sign will be located. We plan to build another at the offramp of the Foothill (210) Freeway and La Crescenta Avenue. Two more we expect will go on willing private properties on Pennsylvania Avenue. The mock-ups of the signs with all the technical details should soon be completed and we will be able to move forward.

To date, all council meeting minutes are approved and are available online.

The next public meeting is at 7 tonight at the Crescenta Valley High School Career Center on Community Avenue. Town council public meetings are broadcast at 8 p.m. Wednesday on cable channel 25.

GRACE ANDRUS is the president of the Crescenta Valley Town Council.
