The project will launch Dec. 2, the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, and will shed light on this complex issue, said Mary Lou Rhodes, president of the Glendale Soroptimist club.

Glendale Quilt Guild Workshop titled “Trumpet Flower” will be presented by Pearl Pereira beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday at Glendale Central Library, 222 E. Harvard St., Glendale.
Easy applique techniques will be explained for making the Trumpet Flower block from the Heartland quilt.
Applique techniques will focus on using the correct tools and techniques to make sharp points, narrow stems, smooth curves and concave shapes.

The Days of the Verdugos Heritage Assn. will have its annual fundraiser, the “Fiestacita,” from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Casa Adobe de San Rafael, 1330 Dorothy Drive, Glendale.
The evening will include a Mexican dinner and beverages, a silent auction and music.
The cost is $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children 5 and under. Proceeds will help fund the Verdugo Adobe Museum.
