Water, water everywhere

September 28, 2007|By Mary O’Keefe

A geyser of water shot up over 40 feet into the air on Foothill Boulevard east of Pennsylvania Avenue on the night of Sept. 21.

Just before 10 p.m. a white 2006 Lexus lost control and drove over a fire hydrant on the south side of Foothill Boulevard.

According to Captain Bill Vance, California Highway Patrol, the driver, a 23-year-old Tujunga man, reported that another driver, which caused him to lose control of his vehicle and drive over the fire hydrant, cut him off. The man stated he was driving at approximately 35 miles per hour when the accident occurred.

“He landed on top of the hydrant and said he had to back up to get off,” Vance said.

The fire hydrant was sheared off, causing the geyser. The waterspout lasted for about a half an hour until L.A. County Fire Department shut it down.
