Area church tour is set for Saturday

The Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley and Crescenta Valley Arts Council will lead a free tour of four area churches from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, starting at La Crescenta Presbyterian, 2902 Montrose Ave.

The tour will focus on the architecture of the churches, as well as the art and music created in them.

Starting at La Crescenta Presbyterian, the earliest church in the valley, the tour will then go to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, which was completely rebuilt a few years ago.

St. Lukes Anglican Church, considered by many to be the premier architectural icon of the valley, with its native stone construction, will follow.

The tour concludes at the Church of the Lighted Window in La Cañada Flintridge. The tour will spend an hour at each church, and participants will drive to each stop.

Hospital supports charity’s toy drive

Verdugo Hills Hospital is joining with Union Rescue Mission’s Christmas Toy Drive Campaign by accepting toy donations during November. A donation bin will be placed in the hospital lobby, which is on the fourth floor. All donated items must be new and unwrapped.

All items donated during the Toy Drive will be arranged on shelves at the mission’s downtown Los Angeles Christmas Store.

Each year during the holidays, the mission converts its chapel into a department store and invites the homeless and working poor of Los Angeles to shop for free gifts for their children. Donation items are also recommended for the children’s parents.

Call (818) 790-7100.
