I went to the Glendale Property Owners Assn. website to decide for myself if there was any conflict of interest. I was disappointed to find that their home page lists its objective as becoming involved in essentially opposing ordinances (view, privacy) and design review reform, which they feel will “negatively affect property rights.”
The key word here is “negatively.” They are not just putting the facts out there to educate and inform, but have taken a position that they view these ordinances as “negative.” As Glendale property owners, they have every right to educate and inform themselves on issues they feel will affect them, but as Design Review Board members, I believe their association with this group makes it impossible for them to remain impartial and unbiased when they review projects before them.
It is clearly a case of conflict of interest. How can the community trust a Design Review Board member with the future of their neighborhoods when they are publicly against the very guidelines and ordinance they need to use in deciding approval or denial of a project before them?
