According to her letter, she never returned to another homeowners meeting nor spoke with any of the other association members.
Before reaching the conclusion that all neighborhood associations do not represent the people in their neighborhoods, and are basically racist, she should actually attend a few meetings, talk to a few (other) members, and see how things are 20 years later — before she reaches her bizarre conclusion.
Although not perfect, associations have advocated positive improvements in our city and protection of our neighborhoods. These associations should actually be more active, and we should all try to support them. Then, James speculates that Councilman John Drayman “thinks only homeowners association members voted for him.” Huh? I’m not sure how she arrived at that conclusion.
During his two runs for office, Drayman reached out to as many people as he could and in all parts of Glendale, probably more than any council candidate in years and all on a fraction of the budget of the top vote-getting candidates. John is the best thing to happen to Glendale in years, and we are all lucky to have him.

Council should fix fine or be removed
I may be the only Glendale News-Press reader who fails to understand the message conveyed in the Bert Ring cartoon published Saturday on the Community Forum page. Is it making fun of the Collards or warning citizens of what can happen to them if they commit a minor permit infraction (“Pruning leaves a fine mess,” Oct. 19)?
But I, for one, hope the fiasco imposed on Glendale citizens by the City Council in their March ordinance concerning indigenous trees will not be forgotten.
Members of any city council who deliberately approve an ordinance that permits a city agency to fine a citizen nearly $350,000 for a minor permit infraction must be removed from office unless they promptly correct their high-handed action that puts many Glendale citizens in jeopardy.
If they didn’t understand the consequences, how can they be trusted to understand any of their actions?
If is not corrected by this council, which enacted the ordinance, the members must be replaced by another council that will correct this monstrosity.
And, by the way, will someone keep us posted, via the News-Press, on the disposition of the outrageous fine levied on the Collards for the minor permit infraction?
