Crescenta Valley Town Council Meeting Preview

November 15, 2007

ON THE AGENDA

The Crescenta Valley Town Council is scheduled to discuss the following items at its Thursday meeting:

ELECTION REPORT

The council’s election committee is slated to recap the recent council election. Current council President Grace Andrus, who earned 244 votes, council newcomer Cheryl Davis, who got 188 votes, and current councilman Frank Beyt, who got 179 votes, will fill three open seats for regular council member positions.

Three candidates — Elizabeth Arnold, Dennis van Bremen and Charles Beatty — earned the next-highest votes and will serve one-year terms as alternate council members.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The committee will likely report voting totals and assess the council’s efforts to increase voter turnout.

MIXED USE ON FOOTHILL BLVD.

The council is slated to vote on whether it will send a letter of support or opposition of a pending mixed-use development on Foothill Boulevard to the Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission.

Plans for the property at 2773 Foothill Blvd. were presented to the council at a public meeting in July 2006 by property owner Houry Aposhian.

Aposhian’s plans call for a two-story, mixed-use building with five residential units above two office.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council will likely vote in favor of sending a letter in support of the project since a special council subcommittee — the Foothill Design Committee — favors the project.

SLATE OF OFFICERS

The council is slated to present a list of the officer posts that different council members are seeking. Every year the council appoints new officers. The officer positions include president, vice president, recording secretary, treasurer and corresponding secretary.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council will likely describe the role of each officer and then discuss which posts are being sought by the nine regular council members.
