Is this really appropriate while U.S.-born citizens, who paid taxes for many years, then fell on hard times, are denied the very same benefits?
The resident families of these refugees need to stand up and bear the majority of the financial burden of helping their relatives.

City’s whim in tree matters is distressing
Concerning your article in the Nov. 6 edition, “Tree fines at root of many queries,” you quote Mayor Ara Najarian and Councilman Frank Quintero as saying “.?.?. they would consider changing the fine structure to take criminal intent into account when determining the fine.”
Nothing is said about changing the ordinance to require some measure of reason in the fine structure. All this bureaucratic foot-dragging by the City Council goes on while they must enjoy watching the Collards and John Oppenheim twist in the wind, not knowing what their fate will be.
The whole thing smacks of predatory actions against Glendale citizens by a City Council that is elected to watch out for the interests of the citizens.
If it’s not predatory, it’s gross incompetence by all involved. Unless they take immediate action to correct their outrageous booby-trapping of Glendale citizens, they should be removed from office.
Just how many other ordinances have they enacted that’ll allow the ruin of a Glendale homeowner at the whim of some city agency? I, for one, will be happy to sign a petition recalling the entire council unless members place corrective action of this ordinance, and others with similar penalties, at the top of their agenda. And, were it not for age, I’d be delighted to initiate and circulate such a petition.
