Some day we again will see Hoover High School and Glendale High School march in the Rose Parade. It’s been since 1955 when Glendale High marched in the Rose Parade. Playing and marching in the Rose Parade is exciting, it’s time to see our hardworking bands appear on local and national TV. They deserve it as their directors Beth Ricaey, Amy Rangel and Matt Schick have done outstanding jobs building the program up one by one.
Next time, you see them tell them how much we appreciate the sound of their bands and the work they do day after day. As far as I’m concerned, they score a touchdown every day.

City’s steep pruning fines are outrageous
The fine of $347,600 levied against Mike and Ann Collard for having their trees pruned is totally inappropriate (“Pruning leaves a fine mess,” Oct. 19, “Tree fines at root of many queries,” Nov. 6).
This pruning was done by a professional tree-trimming company, hired by the Collards in response to a notice from the Fire Department. The new ordinance requiring a permit to trim one’s own trees, may have been established with good intentions, but it is being enforced in an outrageous manner.
What has happened to our great city of Glendale that it would penalize anyone for maintaining their own trees?

Take a stand for God on new dollar coin
Everyone should know that the new dollar coin is missing the “In God We Trust” statement that many of us loyal and patriotic citizens may have not noticed. Please refuse the coin and the message will get back to the U.S. Mint.
