Local teacher is BRAVO nominee

Valley View Elementary teacher Lisa Jenks has been announced as a nominee for the 2008 Music Center BRAVO award. The center established the award in 1983 to recognize teachers and schools for creativity, innovation and excellence in arts education.

The winning teacher receives $4,000 along with other prizes like books and tickets to musical performances.

Winning Red Ribbon essays

At Rosemont Middle School, 93 students submitted essays for the this year’s Red Ribbon Week. The essay was to explain “Why not using drugs or alcohol is the right choice for you.” The overall winner was Clare McCreary, an 8th grader. She won a $100 gift card to the Glendale Galleria.

For the 7th grade division, Sean Johnson won a $50 gift card to the Glendale Galleria and for the 8th grade division, Jessica Liaudat won a $50 gift card to the Glendale Galleria.

Rosemont students “make a difference”

Middle school students at Rosemont received awards for their artistic creations entered in this year’s PTA Reflections contest.

All entrants were recognized for their efforts and winners were announced at the school at a presentation ceremony on Nov. 14. Each artist’s submission was an interpretation of this year’s theme “I Can Make A Difference.”

First place winners: Easun Arunachalam for literature; Hye Rim Yi in visual arts; Jennifer Tanji in photography. Second place winners: Hee Ju Kang, Jessica Liaudat for visual arts; Jonah Kubela in photography. Third place winners: Monica Lyons for literature; Rachel Artime in photography.

Those receiving honorable mention were Francesca Ragusa for literature and Richard Cho in photography.

St. Francis drumline in Montrose parade

Saint Francis High School Varsity Drumline is scheduled to play in the Glendale Montrose Christmas Parade on Saturday night. Under the direction of Tye Gaddis, they will perform a rudimentary drumming style.
