Samaniego then notched another win at the Hoosierland Invitational on the 3-meter with a season-best 310.10 and finished second on the 1-meter. It marked the first time that Samaniego earned the award. She’s also UCLA’s fifth women’s diver of the month all-time.

Jeanine Deno (Crescenta Valley High, 2004) junior guard, Cal Baptist women’s basketball: Deno, the 2004 All-Area Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year, finished with a season-high 20 points and six rebounds for the Lancers in an 83-79 nonconference road loss to Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday.

She also collected six points, six rebounds and two assists in Cal Baptist’s 69-67 nonconference home victory against Ohio Dominican on Monday.

Entering Wednesday’s home game against Bethany, the four-time All-CIF selection is averaging 12.5 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game and two assists per game in four games played this season.

Deno spent the previous two seasons at Pasadena City College, scoring 1,025 points. She was named the junior college State Player of the Year last season.

Matt Oliver (Crescenta Valley High, 2004) senior guard, Azusa Pacific University men’s basketball: Oliver, a former All-Pacific League Most Valuable Player, came through with a clutch effort for the Cougars recently.

Oliver scored a season-high 21 points to spur Azusa Pacific to a 78-75 victory against undefeated Cal State San Bernardino in a nonconference contest Friday. He scored 16 points in the final 10 minutes of play, including 10 of the Cougars’ 11 points in overtime.

Oliver converted on two free throws with 19 seconds left to give Azusa Pacific a 76-74 lead. He closed out the victory with a steal with five seconds left.

Entering Wednesday’s home nonconference game against Trinity, Oliver is averaging 7.2 points per game and 3.2 rebounds per game in 10 games played this year.

Mackenzie Mabry (Crescenta Valley High, 2006) sophomore, San Diego State University women’s cross-country: Mabry enjoyed a respectable season for the Aztecs. She had two top-10 team marks this season in the four- and six-kilometer races.

Mabry posted a mark of 23 minutes 12 seconds in the six-kilometer race of the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 29, putting her fourth on the team list in that race category.

Earlier, she had a time of 16:02 at the Big Wave Invitational on Sept. 22 to finish 21st overall. However, that mark turned out to be the seventh-best among San Diego State runners in the 4K race.

Mabry placed 55th overall at the Mountain West Conference championship race in 25 minutes.
