All-area Girls’ Cross-country Team

January 11, 2008

 Michelle Callister, junior,

Crescenta Valley

Will likely be the Falcons’ top returner next season, as she was consistently Crescenta Valley’s No. 3 runner. Was fifth-best finisher at Pacific League final and took home top-50 finishes in both the CIF Southern Section and State Division I races.

 Megan Doeding, junior,

Crescenta Valley

Battled with freshman Anneke Kakebeen down the stretch for Falcons’ fifth spot, but was a steady performer throughout the season in gobbling up points for the Falcons en route to their sixth straight Pacific League title.

 Rachel Lange, senior,

Crescenta Valley

Had it not been for friend and teammate Claire Collison, would’ve easily been a two-time All-Area Runner of the Year. Still will go down as one of the all-time best in area. In 2007, she finished second in the Pacific League, sixth at CIF and saved her best for last with a fourth-place finish at state in 17:45.

 Sadee Martinez, senior,

Burroughs

Leaves Burroughs High as the most successful cross-country runner in school history. The only girl or boy to advance to the CIF-State Meet, she did it twice. She finished 10th (18:00) in 2007, after a sixth-place CIF Division I finish (17:49) a week earlier and a third-place finish (18:36) in the Pacific League.

 Carlotta Pham, senior,

Crescenta Valley

Her final year with the Falcons was her best, as she was a dependable top-five finisher for them, as she finished fourth in the Pacific League finals and raced to a 50th-place finish in the CIF Division I State Meet in 19:05.

COACH OF THE YEAR

 Kirk Nishiyama

Flintridge Sacred Heart

In his 14th season at the helm of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, with no true top runner, the pack-running Tologs turned it on in the CIF Division IV Final, taking third in the race to advance to state for the first time since 2003.
