In one sequence, a Notre Dame throw-in five yards from the corner flag was followed by a Notre Dame corner kick, which led to another Notre Dame corner kick. Minutes later, the Knights had consecutive corners once again, but the Tologs managed to survive the onslaught.

Pace cited senior forward Heather Riley as a major factor in stopping the Knights’ set plays.

“She was a powerful presence on those set plays,” he said. “That was the difference in us defending those set plays.”

Much the same way Oro was likely the difference in the Tologs not falling behind in the opening half.

“Oro kept us in the game in the first half,” said Pace of his sophomore keeper, who garnered five saves as the Tologs shut out the Knights for the second time this year after the teams played to a scoreless tie in the Dec. 28 Los Tacos Holiday Festival final.

Carter Vettese and Garoian teamed up to put the game out of reach in the 78th minute.

With the Tologs scrambling to clear the ball, Vettese worked it up field, finding Garoian behind the Knights defense. Garoian went to the left of the charging goalie and tapped in her second score.

“All I did is run to the ball and put it in,” Garoian said. “That goal is basically Carter’s.”
