This new pricing plan would set up three tiers of water rates: one rate for low-volume users, a slightly higher rate for middle-range users and a higher rate for high-volume users.

The first tier is typically designed to include the overall cost of the groundwater pumped from our Verdugo Basin wells.

The average cost of our groundwater is $300 per acre-foot. (One acre foot is equal to 325,900 gallons of water).

The second tier rate applies in order to cover the cost of the water both from groundwater and water purchased from Metropolitan Water District through Foothill Municipal Water District.

CVWD purchases 40% of its water from Metropolitan Water District and the cost is $794 per acre-foot and that cost will increase every year.

The third tier would contain the highest 5-10 percent of customers, who typically use 10-20 percent of the total volume of water used.

The public hearing is set on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m. The board will continue the public hearing on the following Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m.

We invite you to attend.

Our offices are located at 2700 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta.
