Martirosyan wins by TKO

February 08, 2008

Junior middleweight boxing phenom Vanes “The Nightmare” Martirosyan remained undefeated with an impressive third-round technical knockout on Thursday.

Martirosyan (19-0, 13 KOs), a Glendale resident, dominated his most formidable opponent yet, Michi Munoz (20-2, 13 KOs), in a bout at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, televised live on the Versus Network.

It was Martirosyan’s third fight in 49 days, and his second this year after he decisioned Clarence Taylor on Jan. 4.

Martirosyan, a former Olympian, landed 92 of 196 punches thrown (47%), while Munoz connected just 15 times.

Martirosyan, 21, landed a flash knockdown off a left hook in the first round. He dominated the round using a steady left jab and a slew of left-right combinations.

The same formula worked in another dominating effort in the second round.

In the third, Munoz went down to a knee after a Martirosyan right cross staggered him. Forty seconds later at 2:20 of the third round, Martirosyan battered his bloodied opponent, resulting in a stoppage.
