Police arrest man in hit-and-run case

Police Tuesday arrested an 18-year-old Glendale man on suspicion of misdemeanor hit-and-run, after he allegedly fled the scene of a crash in northwest Glendale.

Police said that Rafael Estarellas crashed his white Nissan Pathfinder into a parked Mercedes-Benz on the 300 block of Cumberland Road.

Witnesses reported seeing three men step out of the Pathfinder, pick up its front bumper and throw it into the back seat before pulling away at a high rate of speed, according to the report.

Officers located Estarellas a short time later, along with a vehicle that matched witnesses’ description and showed damage consistent with the accident that had been reported — with part of the vehicle’s bumper in the back seat.

Estarellas faces a maximum of six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
