A Crescenta Valley High School girl is recovering from injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle in the 4300 block of Ramsdell Avenue on April 3.

According to California Highway Patrol officer Todd Workman, the 16-year-old girl was struck at 6:35 a.m. while crossing Ramsdell Avenue on her way to school.

“She was struck by a vehicle driven by a 61-year-old female from La Crescenta,” Workman said.

The preliminary investigation found that the girl was not in the crosswalk at the time she was struck, and the driver was not speeding. The investigation is ongoing.

The girl was transported to Huntington Memorial. She is recovering after surgery to repair a broken tibia.

Crescenta Valley High School Principal Linda Evans said she visited the student at the hospital and informed the teachers of the accident.

“I sent an e-mail to the teachers,” Evans said.

The accident has sparked conversation among PTA, parents and school staff about the traffic congestion at all Crescenta Valley schools.

“We need to get the message around to every school for drivers and pedestrians to be aware,” Evans said. “For many of our kids school starts at 7 a.m. and they are not here just in the morning, but they are back here in the evening, too.”

Evans said that there are many school activities from early morning into the night and that drivers need to be alert. She added that both drivers and students have so many things on their minds that they are not always 100% aware of their surroundings.
